Sigeion (Çanakkale)

The site of Sigeion is located on the coast near Yenişehir village, 6 km southwest of Troy. The harbour city was established as a colony of Athens in 620 BC. An intensive survey of the site, including its necropolis, began in 2005 under the direction of Thomas Schaefer of the University of Tubingen. Pottery found dated from the 7th to the 4th centuries BC.

Sigeion, Truva’nın 6 km güneybatısındaki Yenişehir köyü yakınında, sahilde yer alır. Liman kenti, MÖ 620’de Atina’nın kolonisi olarak kurulmuştur. Kentin, nekropolünü de içeren kapsamlı yüzey araştırmasına 2005 yılında, Tubingen Üniversitesi’nden Thomas Schaefer yürütücülüğünde başlanmıştır. Bulunan keramikler MÖ 7. yüzyıl ile 4. yüzyıl arasına tarihlenmektedir.
