İkiztepe (Samsun)
The site of İkiztepe, 7 km north-west of Bafra and overlooking the Black Sea, has four summits or mounds. Tepe I has 3rd and early 2nd millennium deposits, Tepe II has deposits from Late Chalcolithic to Early Bronze III and Tepe III has 11 levels of Early Bronze, Middle Bronze, Late Iron and Hellenistic periods. The site is particularly noted for its wattle-and-daub architecture. U. B. Alkım began excavations at the site in 1974, and since his death in 1981 the project has been directed by Önder Bilgi.2008
Excavation continued on Tepe I in Trench M, where three architectural levels were revealed in squares C19-20. The lowest two layers date to EB I and each produced a burnt wooden building, with deep pits and an oven associated with the second. In the topmost layer, dating to early EB II, a burnt floor was unearthed. Finds from this area included many spindle whorls and loomweights, whetstones, brush handles, bone and bronze points, a bronze earring and a bronze knife.In a second area six earthen graves were revealed, with burials of a child, a woman and three adult men. Grave goods included bronze and gold earrings, bronze spearheads, and frit and bone beads. These graves date from EB II.
2006
In 2006 work continued in Area M, as well as in a number of other areas. The EB I levels were burnt as usual, thus preserving the wood. Level 1 is on virgin soil and by Level 3 the buildings have grid-plan foundations, all in wood. With the stratigraphic cut now complete there is a good pottery sequence. Among the structures excavated this year was a workshop with kilns and metal slag.2005
In 2005 work was again conducted in trench M, a 150 square metre area on Tepe I. It has now been taken down to virgin soil. Under the six EB II levels were found three levels dating to EB I. The top EB I level contained the workshop found in 2004. The earliest EB I level did not produce any architecture, but all levels contained a good assemblage of finds, including pottery and figurines. The excavations at Ikiztepe have now been operating for thirty years.2004
In 2004 excavation took place on top of Tepe I, in trench M. Under a layer of EB infant burials were six layers (levels 2-7) of EB II occupation, with wattle-and-daub houses. A number of ovens and kilns were found, including a fine square kiln in level 7.Website

Bafra’nın 7 km kuzeybatısında, Karadeniz’e bakan yamaçlarda bulunan bu büyük yerleşim dört zirve ya da höyük üzerine kurulmuştur. Tepe I’de 3. ve erken 2. yüzyıl kalıntıları, Tepe II’de Geç Kalkolitik Dönem ile İlk Tunç Çağı III arasına tarihlenen kalıntılar ve Tepe III’de İlk Tunç, Orta Tunç ve Geç Demir çağları ile Helenistik Döneme ait 11 tabaka bulunmaktadır. Yerleşim özellikle dalörgü mimarisi ile dikkat çekmektedir. 1974 yılında U. B. Alkım yönetiminde başlayan kazı çalışmaları, 1981’de ölümünün ardından Önder Bilgi başkanlığında sürdürülmektedir.2006
2006 yılında, Alan M’de sürdürülen çalışmalara ek olarak bir kaç başka alana daha yoğunlaşılmıştır. Diğer yerlerde olduğu gibi yangına maruz kalan İT I tabakalarında ahşap elemanların korunduğu izlenmektedir. Tabaka 1 bakir toprak üzerinde yer almakta ve Tabaka 3’ten itibaren yapılar, tamamı ahşap, ızgara planlı temellere oturmaktadır. Stratigrafik profilin böylece tamamlanması sayesinde ardaşık bir keramik kronolojisi elde edilmiştir. Bu yıl kazılan yapılar arasında kilnleri bulunan ve metal curufuna rastlanan bir işlik dikkat çeker.2005
2005 yılında çalışmalar yine, Tepe I’in üzerinde 150 m2 genişliğinde bir alanı kapsayan açma M’de gerçekleştirilmiştir. Burada bakir toprağa ulaşılmıştır. Altı İT II tabakasının altında üç İT I tabakası bulunmuştur. 2004 yılında bulunan işlik, en üst İT I tabasına aittir. En erken İT I tabakasında hiç mimariye rastlanmamış olmakla birlikte, tüm tabakalarda aralarında keramik ve heykelciklerin de yer aldığı nitelikli buluntu koleksiyonları ortaya çıkarılmıştır. İkiztepe kazıları bugün otuz yıllık geçmişe sahiptir.2004
2004 yılı kazı çalışmaları Tepe I üzerinde Açma M’de gerçekleştirilmiştir. Burada çocuk mezarlarından oluşan bir İTÇ tabakasının altında, İT II yerleşimine ait dalörgü evlerden oluşan altı tabaka (tabaka 2-7) ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Rastlanan fırın ve kilnler arasında, tabaka 7’de bulunan nitelikli işçiliğe sahip kare biçiminde bir kiln dikkat çekmektedir.İnternet sitesi
