Derecik (Bursa)
The late Roman and Byzantine basilica at Derecik, southwest of Orhaneli, 40 kilometres south of Bursa, was built in the early 4th century AD on the site of a sanctuary of Zeus. Excavations by a team headed by Mustafa Şahin of Uludağ University and Michel Fuchs of Lausanne University began in 2007.In 2007 the walls were cleaned and soundings were made. They indicated continuous occupation, with three main phases of the 4th and 5th centuries.
The single apse church is oriented east-west. In the first phase it had a single nave with mud brick and wood superstructure. The floor was well preserved in parts and indicates a date early in the fourth century. There were floor mosaics but none was preserved in the narthex. After a destruction, the building was expanded in the second phase with a larger narthex. In the last phase additions were made to the southeast of the apse and west of the narthex.

Bursa’nın 40 km güneyinde, Orhaneli’nin güneybatısındaki Derecik’te yer alan Geç Roma ve Bizans dönemleri bazilikası, M.S. 4. yüzyılın başında bir Zeus kutsal alanı üzerinde inşa edilmiştir. Uludağ Üniversitesi’nden Mustafa Şahin ve Lozan Üniversitesi’nden Michel Fuchs önderliğindeki bir ekip tarafından 2007 yılında kazı çalışmalarına başlanmıştır.2007’de duvarlar temizlenmiş ve sondajlar açılmıştır. Bulgular, 4. ve 5. yüzyıllara ait üç ana evreden oluşan sürekli bir kullanım sürecine işaret etmektedir.
Tek apsisli kilise, doğu-batı yönünde konumlandırılmıştır. Tek nefli ilk evresinde ahşap karkaslı kerpiç bir üstyapıya sahipti. Kısmen iyi korunmuş olan döşemeler, 4. yüzyılın başına işaret etmektedir. Narteksteki taban mozaikleri günümüze ulaşmamıştır. Yapı yıkılmış ancak ikinci evresinde daha geniş narteksli olarak yeniden inşa edilmiştir. Son evrede apsisin güneydoğusuna ve narkteksin batısına bazı ekler yapılmıştır.
