Cyzicus (Balıkesir)

The site of Cyzicus is located to the east of Erdek, on the Kapıdağı peninsula. Founded in the 8th century BC by Milesians, it was important throughout the Greek and Roman periods. Remains at the site include the vaulted platform of the Temple of Hadrian.

Excavations were conducted at the site by Ekrem Akurgal and then by A. Yaylalı (1989-1999), and a new project has now begun under the direction of Nurettin Koçhan of Atatürk University, Erzerum.

Cyzicus (Balıkesir)

Cyzicus, Erdek’in doğusunda, Kapıdağı Yarımadası üzerinde yer alır. M.Ö. 8. yüzyılda Miletuslular tarafından kurulmuş ve Yunan ve Roma dönemlerinde önemini korumuştur. Kalıntılar arasında Hadrian Tapınağı’na ait tonozlu platform öne çıkar.

Sitteki kazı çalışmaları daha önce Ekrem Akurgal ve A. Yaylalı (1989-1999) başkanlığında gerçekleştirilmiş olup, Erzurum Atatürk Üniversitesi’nden Nurettin Koçhan yönetiminde yeni bir projeye başlanmıştır.
