Ayasuluk Hill (İzmir)

Ayasuluk Hill at Selçuk, to the northeast of Ephesus, has fortifications of early Byzantine date (the gateway is 6th century AD), although they were extensively reconstructed in the Seljuk period. Inside the gateway is St John's Church (St Jean monument), a domed basilica dating from the period of Justinian (AD 527-565) and said to have been erected above the tomb of St John. Both the citadel and church have been restored.

A study of Ayasuluk and St John's Church was conducted in 2007 by Mustafa Büyükkolancı of Pamukkale University.

Ephesus’un kuzeydoğusunda Selçuk’ta bulunan Ayasuluk Tepesi, erken Bizans Dönemine (ana kapısı M.S. 6. yüzyıla) ait ancak Selçuklu Döneminde büyük oranda yeniden yapılmış surlarla çevrilmiştir. Kapının içinde, Justinian Dönemine (M.S. 527-565) tarihlenen bir kubbeli bazilika olan ve St John’un mezarı üzerine inşa edildiği öne sürülen, St John Kilisesi (St Jean anıtı) yer almaktadır. Kale ve kilise daha önce restore edilmiştir.

2007 yılında Pamukkale Üniversitesi’nden Mustafa Büyükkolancı, Ayasuluk ve St John Kilisesi'nde araştırmalar yapmıştır.
