Alexandria Troas (Çanakkale)
The site of Alexandria Troas, on the coast south of Troy, was founded by Antigonos and Lysimachos on the instructions of Alexander the Great and flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Investigations led by Elmar Schwertheim have been conducted at this site since 1993.2007
At the port, the inner mole was investigated and the path from the port to the city wall was traced. Tombs lined the path.The western side of the Roman forum (the site of the podium temple) consists of a cryptoporticus, separating the forum from the lower agora. The agora is 7 m lower than the forum. The cryptoporticus had originally been a Hellenistic stoa but it was later converted into a closed cryptoporticus. In front of the closed section was a Doric stoa.
The columnar hall in front of the Odeion had at least two phases, the first belonging to the Hellenistic period and the second to the Roman. The door revetment has low relief with vegetal designs and is perhaps of the Hadrianic period or later. The latest wall has marble revetment and beautiful opus sectile. The upper part contains spolia, including parts of an over-life-size marble statue of Claudius and a fragment of an Apollo statue. In a building next to the Odeion an architrave was reused in the wall. It bore two inscriptions of the Claudian period, so the building dates to some time between the Augustan foundation and the Claudian period.
A number of important inscriptions from the site have been published in Asia Minor Studien vols 55 and 58.
2004
In 2004 work concentrated on the podium temple excavated since 1997. It sits in the centre of a forum. Excavation of a portico in the eastern part of the forum, which is connected to an odeion, uncovered many pieces of opus sectile, marble and bronze sculpture fragments, as well as a fountain. Work at the cryptoporticus in the west of the forum revealed elements of a Doric hall aligned with it.Website

Troia’nın güneyinde kıyıda bulunan bu yerleşim, Büyük İskender’in emriyle Antigonos ile Lysimachos tarafından kurulmuş ve Helenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde gelişmiştir. Araştırmalar 1993 yılından beri Elmar Schwertheim başkanlığında gerçekleştirilmektedir.2007
Limanda iç dalgakıran incelenmiş ve limandan surlara ulaşan yolun konumu belirlenmiştir. Bu yol boyunca mezarlar bulunmaktadır.Roma forumunun (kaideli tapınağın da bulunduğu) batı kenarı, forumu aşağı agoradan ayıran bir cryptoporticustan oluşmuştur. Agora, forumdan 7 m aşağı seviyededir. Helenistik üslupta bir stoa olarak inşa edilen iken ara bölüm, daha sonra kapalı cryptoporticusa dönüştürülmüştür. Kapalı bölümün önünde Dor düzeninde bir stoa bulunuyordu.
Odeionun önündeki sütunlu salonun, ilki Helenistik Döneme ikincisi Roma Dönemine ait en az iki evresi vardır. Kapı sövelerindeki basık profilli bitkisel desenler büyük olasılıkla Hadrian Dönemine veya daha sonrasına aittir. En geç duvarlar mermer kaplamalı ve nitelikli opus sectile bezeklidir. Bunun üst kısmında yer alan devşirme parçalar (spolia) arasında büyük ölçekte bir mermer Claudius heykeli ile bir Apollon heykeline ait parçalar yer almaktadır. Odeionun yanında yer alan bir yapıda, bir arşitrav yine duvar örgüsünde devşirme olarak kullanılmıştır. Bunun üzerinde yer alan Claudius Dönemine ait iki yazıt yapının, kentin Augustus Döneminde kuruluşu ile Claudius Dönemi arasına tarihlendiğini göstermektedir.
Sitte bulunan önemli yazıtlardan bir bölümü Asia Minor Studien cilt 55 ve 58’de yayınlanmıştır.
2004
2004 yılı çalışmaları, 1997’den beri kazısı sürdürülen ve bir forumun ortasında yer alan podiumlu bir tapınağına odaklanmıştır. Forumun doğu bölümünde bulunan ve odeiona bağlanan revakta yapılan kazılar sonucu, çok sayıda opus sectile parçası, mermer ve tunç heykel parçaları ile bir çeşme ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Forumun batı kısmında bulunan cryptoporticusta yürütülen kazılar ise buna paralel Dor düzeninde bir salona ait kalıntıları gün ışığına çıkarmıştır.Web sitesi
